The whole Martin family were members of the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face. Previously, God had given to the Carmelite Sr. Mary St. Peter to establish within the Church a devotion of Reparation.

As Therese explains in the text of the current book: "The object of Reparation to the Holy Face is to repair for the insults offered the Divine Majesty by those who through their own fault deliberately remain outside the Church; it is for avowed atheists, for blasphemers who scoff at all religion, and for all who out of hatred profane His Holy Name and hold in derision all that pertains to Divine Worship."
